Living Room Furniture

My living room furniture is all custom made using premium hardwoods and the best hardware. Whether you are looking for a new media center, coffee table, bookshelf, entertainment console, sofa table, occasional table or other accessory, I can design and build an heirloom for you. I can design a piece to complement your existing living room furniture, or design and build an entire living room set for you. Below are some examples of living room furniture that I have built.

If you do not find what you are looking for, please contact me to design a piece for you.

Sapele Coffee Table

This elliptical sapele table features a camphor burl top with a wenge inlay. Making the curved border pieces out of eight segments took some careful planning and work. The base is the fourth or fifth version of a design of mine. The piece was finished with General Finishes Arm-R-Seal in a gloss sheen.

Price guide $4,500

Sapele End Tables

These sapele end tables have a camphor burl veneered top with a wenge banding. The drawer sides, back, and bottom are made from maple. The dovetails at the four corners of the drawer were hand cut. It took a careful series of work to get the sapele hardwood pieces to fit precisely around the veneered top. The finish, too, was a laborious process. Several coats of gloss General Finishes Arm-R-Seal.

Price guide: $2,250 each

This coffee table is made of 208 individual pieces of jatoba. Each of the thirteen layers is made of 16 parts or segments. The segments all get glued together and then the piece is turned round and smoothed inside and out. The table is finished with an oil and wax blend on the inside and out. The top of the table is 1/2” thick tempered glass.

Demilune Table

This demilune table is made to go against a wall. The shape of the top is one half of an ellipse. The legs are curved and tapered across their width and thickness. I took care to keep the grain of the legs as straight as possible for both strength and aesthetics. Inlays in the top simulate through tenons. Each leg is actually held on by multiple tenons into the top.

Sculpted Walnut Table

This small side table draws influence from two iconic American furniture makers, Wharton Esherick and Sam Maloof. It is made of solid walnut hardwood. The legs join the top with tapered tenons that pierce the top. The legs pass through an adder block on the way through that is shaped to give the joint an organic form.

Sculpted Rocking Chair

This solid walnut rocking chair is a copy of the iconic Sam Maloof design. The curves of this chair give it beauty and unmatched comfort. The complexity of this piece is deceptive. Although there are few parts, there are over 100 hours of work in this chair. Each of the parts is shaped by hand and eye, first with a bandsaw, then a grinder and then with a rasp. Once the chair parts come together and are shaped appropriately, the many hours of hand sanding begin.

This piece won Best Traditional at the 20th Annual Texas Furniture Makers Show in Kerrville, Texas.

Finished with a hand rubbed linseed oil and beeswax blend.

Price guide $6,000

Equally at home beside the bed or in the living room as an end table, this small dresser is constructed entirely of hardwood and designed to withstand a lifetime of use.  The case and base are made from one board of African mahogany. The case top and bottom are joined to the sides with floating tenons.   The back of the case features frame and panel joinery.  The cTexas Furniture Makers Showse tapered legs and mortise and tenon joinery.

The three drawers have figured maple fronts that are joined with half-blind dovetails.  The drawer pulls are hand made from wenge and attach to the drawer front with a through dovetail.  The remaining drawer components are made from soft maple.

Alder Coffee Table

This table was commissioned by a local architect for use in his own home. He drew up the set of plans and sent a four page document for me to bid from. That was truly a unique experience for me -- I am usually the one drawing up the plans. We had a collaborative e-mail conversation and sent the CAD file back and forth a few times.

The product of that collaboration is a great table with two shallow drawers and some subtle details.

My client had this to say: "Over the past few weeks I have appreciated the updates and open line of communication, which made everything go so smoothly. You are a true craftsman, and I thank you for your hard work. The piece will be admired, valued, and enjoyed for years to come. Thank you for bringing an idea to life. I sincerely hope we will be able to collaborate on a future project. "
