Bedroom Furniture

My bedroom furniture is all custom made using premium hardwoods and the best hardware. Whether you are looking for a new bed, night stand, dresser, chest, armoire, bench, mirror, blanket chest, occasional table or other accessory, I can design and build an heirloom for you. I can design a piece to complement your existing bedroom furniture, or design and build an entire bedroom set for you. Below are some examples of bedroom furniture that I have built.

If you do not find what you are looking for, please contact me to design a piece for you.

Framework Dresser

This skeletonized dresser is a design evolution from a pair of nightstands a few years earlier

This dresser is made of rift sawn white oak and wenge. The top is shop sawn veneer with a wenge inlay. Mortise and tenoned frames support each of the eight drawers. The frames and the top are glued to aprons that serve as guides for the drawers. The aprons are rabbeted to lighten their appearance and create datum lines that wrap around all four sides of the case. The drawers have hand cut dovetails at all four corners and sculpted wenge knobs.

The dresser won Best of Show at the 2024 Texas Furniture Makers Show.

Framework Nighstand

This skeletonized nightstand spent many years on the pages of my sketchbook before I connected the idea with a client.

This nightstand is made of rift sawn white oak and wenge. The top is shop sawn veneer with a wenge inlay. Mortise and tenoned frames support each of the three drawers. The frames and the top are glued to aprons that serve as guides for the drawers. The aprons are rabbeted to lighten their appearance and create datum lines that wrap around all four sides of the case. The drawers have hand cut dovetails at all four corners, French-fit bottoms, and turned wenge knobs.

The nightstands were awarded Best Contemporary Style by the judges at the 2021 Texas Furniture Makers Show.

Walnut Bed

I made five of these contemporary beds for a local architecture firm. The bed rails and headboard border are solid walnut. The internal framework of the bed and slats are maple. The headboard panels are 3/4” thick plywood veneered on the front and back with 1/16” thick walnut veneer

The king headboards are 142” wide, 42” tall when assembled. The 31” end panels connect with the 80” center panel with Lamello P System knock down fasteners. The bed frame connects to the headboard with stub tenons and hidden bed bolts.

All components finished with Osmo PolyX oil in a satin sheen.

Price guide: $8,000

Pecan Dresser

This pecan chest of drawers is very substantial at 40” wide, 60” tall, and 24” deep. The dresser will eventually transition into bedroom use, but it is starting its life in the clients kitchen. The drawers ride undermount slides by Blum. They are heavy duty and extend fully. The drawers are made from maple and feature dovetails at all four corners.

Price guide $8,000

Equally at home beside the bed or in the living room as an end table, this small case is constructed entirely of hardwood and designed to withstand a lifetime of use.  The case is made from one board American walnut. The grain of the wood wraps around the nightstand.  The sides, top and bottom are joined together with a through mitered dovetail.  The back of the nightstand features frame and panel joinery.  The case sits atop turned walnut legs which are joined to the nightstand with wedged mortise and tenon joints.

One of the nightstands has a door that conceals an adjustable shelf.  The door is hung with brass knife hinges and has a turned blackwood knob.  The other nightstand has a dovetailed drawer. Cherry Gentleman's Chest

A celebration of the Shaker style and the three main variants of the dovetail joint, this six-drawer cherry dresser is constructed entirely of hardwood. The case components are joined with through dovetails at the top corners. Sliding dovetails join the dust panels between the drawers to the case sides. Hand-cut half-blind dovetails join the maple drawer sides to the cherry drawer fronts. The drawer pulls are turned out of cherry and joined to the drawer front with a wedged mortise and tenon joint. The door is hung on knife hinges and conceals an adjustable shelf. Even the back of this case and bottom of each drawer received special treatment: they both are made of hardwood. The back is ship lapped cherry that is screwed to the case with brass screws.

Sapele Hope Chest

This hope chest was commissioned by an out of state customer as a birthday present for his wife. The hope chest is made entirely of solid wood. The chest features a dovetailed drawer, two dovetailed sliding tills, and a breadboard top. Two secret compartments round out the storage. I'd break a promise to the customer if I told you where they were.

In nearly ten years of making furniture, I've received only one call about wood failure. Unfortunately, it happened on this piece which is more than 1,000 miles from my workshop. The solid top of the blanket chest warped badly over the winter under forced air heat despite the breadboard ends. The solution was to make a new top. The replacement was made of shop-sawn sapele veneers over a stable core. New breadboard ends were applied and the top finished and shipped in a custom made container. Total cost to the customer - zero dollars.

Cherry Armoire

This large armoire has eight drawers and two doors. This is the largest and heaviest single piece of furniture I have ever made. This Shaker style case takes design cues from several period pieces that I admire including the Dr. White's chest by Thomas Moser. All of the eight drawers are dovetailed at all four corners. There are hundreds of hand cut dovetails in this case. Each of the drawers, even the 41" wide ones, open and close effortlessly. The drawers are piston fit into their openings. The doors at the top of the case conceal adjustable shelves. The back of the case is frame and panel construction. The plinth base is dovetailed at the corners. All fourteen knobs are hand turned and installed with through wedged mortise and tenons. This cabinet took over 200 hours to complete.
